today i had an internship interview downtown. i was really nervous because i’ve gone on several internship interviews in the past year and i haven’t been successful yet. this time around i tried to focus on being present and making THEM feel comfortable and more literally, make them smile. i’m figuring if i’m more conversational, they’ll be more likely to consider me someone they want to work with. usually i’m very professional and only speak when spoken to but i tried to switch it up because i really want this job.
after that i was given the opportunity to go to a leadership luncheon at one of the community colleges downtown. so after my interview i grabbed coffee and a bagel and went on my way- only thing is, i got lost downtown because i took the train in the wrong direction. i got off and walked a few blocks, spilled my coffee all over my professional outfit, and it started to pour. i didn’t have a jacket, let alone an umbrella, so i literally had to run into a sketchy alleyway for shelter while i figured out where the hell i was going. then i spotted a bus that took me right to the college and i attended a luncheon with students from my school and the school where it was hosted. i got to meet a few faculty & staff from both colleges and mingled (more or less…). several people gave speeches there including a young professional in PR (!) and the mayor of the city (!!).
it was a good time, free lunch (and the banana creme pie was amazing, above) so i can’t complain, and afterwards we literally took a party bus back to campus. complete with plastic cocktail cups, little lights in the ceiling, and neon green lighting bolt displays.
today was ridiculously weird and i’m glad its all over. i might go to the art gallery with a friend tonight because it’s free on fridays.
