she said i think i’ll go to boston… i think I’ll start a new life
i am officially back in buffalo after a four day road trip across new york state and to boston, massachusetts! i got to see old friends, college friends, and meet some great new people along the way. shoutout to my summer roommate who drove the entire way!
thursday night, we drove to syracuse, new york, which is about three hours from my hometown. i couch-surfed with my soul sistah tali, who i haven’t seen since may and missed so much! i got to meet her family and we painted our nails while watching america’s funniest home videos and family guy. i’m totally a grown up.
when i finally got to boston, i met up with an old friend from high school, casey, and her boyfriend alex, and HIS old friend from high school noah. we ended up going to this awful chinese place called rice bowl and i almost threw up my sesame chicken & brown rice while everyone else discussed buddhist philosophies in a marxist context and made fun of anyone who didn’t know who a g chord sounded like. after watching them play video games for an hour or so, her friends started coming over and we headed over to this mexican restaurant called border cafe located in harvard square.

because our party was so large (there were twelve people in the end!) we killed an hour by checking out the garage mall where i bought a book of short stories by j.d. salinger and a gift for a friend back home. casey ordered her first margarita at border cafe and it was super strong!

also, the cops were harassing this amazing street performer, and i wish i had the balls to tell them to fuck off and find a real problem to po-lice.

then we took the t back to their apartment & started drinking & listening to music & such. campo & alex were the coolest of her friends (excluding nutty, who i now consider the coolest of MY friends- he was brilliant) and we got on well. the night turned sour for me when everyone started smoking weed and listening to beyonce’s “got a big ego” and trying to figure out how to play yukor high. but- i’m not going to dwell on it.
ANYWAY, the next morning we got up and grabbed some breakfast and had to say our goodbyes. before that, though, casey & i got a photo (thanks alex!) and i spotted some really sweet street art on our walk.

please ignore my ratty hair- i literally spent three days & nights couch surfing and sleeping in cars.

my roommate had gone to see lady gaga the night before, so she picked me up and we went to a farmers market & touristy area downtown by quincy market. check out this badass street performer standing on a twenty foot pogo stick (held up solely by audience volunteers, no less!), with machetes in his back pocket, juggling balls full of rice.

there are more photos, but i’ll spare them from this post. all in all i had a great trip and i would love to visit boston again! maybe on my own terms, next time.

so i was browsing through this photographers online portfolio and came across this really simple photo of a red, white and blue popsicle. i immediately recognized it as the cover to the book consumed by author benjamin barber. i’ve read a few chapters in the book but it’s a lot to take in so i can’t say that i’ve finished it, yet.
i just felt cool about recognizing it. oh, and schierlitz’s work is pretty sweet too.
